Angle connections Type B

The spreadsheet verifies a bolted connection with angle sections tacking into account the Eurocode 3 norm EN 1993-1-8: 2005. The verification can be used to design wind bracing connections in steel building structures. The angles are disposed as in figure.

Two main joint working modes are reported.

Angle type connection working in Shear mode

Features:

  • Main angle sections database for selection
  • Possibility to insert User angle
  • Angle section characteristics evaluation (area, Inertia moments, Bending modulus resistances, centroid axis position
  • Possibility to choose one or two angles for the connection
  • Connected support plate definition
  • Standard steel and user defined materials
  • Bolts definition (characteristics and geometry). Maximum 10 bolts defined disposed on one row
  • Graphical output of the bolting configuration
  • Long joint evaluation
  • Packing plate insertion
  • Shear bolt strength evaluation
  • Bearing angle strength evaluation
  • Bearing plate strength evaluation
  • Angle in tension (net section) strength evaluation
  • Angle in tension (gross section) strength evaluation
  • Support plate in tension (net section) strength evaluation
  • Support plate in tension (gross section) strength evaluation
  • Angle block tearing strength evaluation
  • Graphical output of the strengths
  • Verification to design load

Angle type connection working in Friction mode

Features:

  • Main angle sections database for selection
  • Possibility to insert User angle
  • Angle section characteristics evaluation (area, Inertia moments, Bending modulus resistances, centroid axis position
  • Possibility to choose one or two angles for the connection
  • Connected support plate definition
  • Standard steel and user defined materials
  • Bolts definition (characteristics and geometry). Maximum 10 bolts defined disposed on one row
  • Graphical output of the bolting configuration
  • User value or Eurocode specification for the tightening torque
  • Friction strength evaluation
  • Angle in tension (net section) strength evaluation
  • Angle in tension (gross section) strength evaluation
  • Support plate in tension (net section) strength evaluation
  • Support plate in tension (gross section) strength evaluation
  • Angle block tearing strength evaluation
  • Graphical output of the strengths
  • Verification to design load

Metric unit system (S.I.) is used.
